LWT Student, Jeff Olson (pictured in yellow), just placed silver and bronze in our version of the 2018 Winter Olympics!

Two of our current students, Jeff Olson and Brian Hanna, participated in a welding contest yesterday called Behind the Mask at St. Cloud Technical & Community College in St Cloud, MN. There were around 90 constants present and included contestants from Minnesota, North Dakota, and Wisconsin.

There was 4 categories: Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), Shielding Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW), and Oxyacetylene Cutting (OFC). During the timed events students were presented with a blueprint and the metal components required to complete a weldment in 25 minutes. The weldments were then inspected by AWS Certified Welding Inspectors who scrutinized the dimensions, weld size and weld quality.

Jeff placed 3rd in GMAW and 2nd in Oxyacetylene Cutting, taking home $175 in prizes!

Lynnes Welding President, Dave Lynnes, and Instructor, Brandon Markey, went along for support. They, and all the LWT Staff, are super proud of Jeff and Brian’s performance in the competition!

Congratulations Jeff!
Way to represent LWT!
