Learn proper techniques and electrode selection for welding pipe to meet the API – 1104 (vertical down) welding code. You will be welding with E6010 & 7010 electrodes.
Prerequisites; Must complete our 80 hour SMAW Pre-pipe course or will be required to weld a sample weld before being permitted to start course.
Prepares students for entry-level employment as a SMAW-Stick downhill pipe welder on mild steel with the ability to read and understand welding symbols, blueprints, and pipe layout for fitter and welders.
Course Description - The welding discipline covered in this course instructs students in welding safety of the SMAW – stick process, proper techniques and electrode selection for welding pipe to meet the API – 1104 (vertical down) welding code. Students will be welding with E6010 and E7010 electrodes. This course includes blueprint reading instruction and pipe layout for pipe fitters and welders. Completion of this course prepares the student with the skills for taking the 6G weld test to API – 1104 standards.
Training – Week 1 – Safety, electrode selection, proper preparation and fit-up of pipe. Oxy-acetylene safety and cutting techniques for pipe, 6″ sch, 40 pipe 2G and 5G position. Week 2 – 6″ sch. 40 pipe 5G and 6G position. Week 3 – 4″ sch. 40 pipe 2G, 5G, and 6G position, pipe layout for fitters and welders. Week 5 – 2″ sch. 80. pipe 2G, 5G, and 6G position.
Upon successful completion of this course the student should be: Diversified in the SMAW downhill pipe welding process on mild steel pipe.
Equipped with the skills for the 6G weld test to API – 1104 standards
