Pipe Welding (GTAW-TIG)

Learn the TIG welding skills to pass a 6G weld test.

Course Description:

This course will instruct students in welding safety of the Gas Tungsten Arc Welding Process, proper techniques for welding pipe. Upon completion of this course students will have the skills to pass a 6G weld test to ASME standards. This course is five weeks involving 200 hours of booth instruction, lecture and practice.

Prerequisites:

Students taking this course must have a 3G or 4G certification in the Tig process or will be required to weld a sample test prior to being permitted for class. A 40 hr TIG course is available for participants not passing the 3G or 4G certification.

Course Contents:

Week 1 – Safety, electrode selection, proper preparation and fit-up of pipe. Oxy-Acetylene safety and cutting techniques for pipe. 6″ Sch.40 1G position.
Week 2 – 6″ Sch.40 pipe 2G position and 5G position.
Week 3 – 6″ Sch.40 pipe 6G position.
Week 4 – 2″ Sch.80 pipe 1G position and 2G position.
Week 5 – 2″ Sch.80 pipe 5G position and 6G position.
