Prepares students for entry-level employment as a gas metal arc welder, a gas tungsten welder, a shielded metal arc welder, a gas tungsten pipe welder or stick pipe welder with the ability to read and understand welding symbols and blueprints. 

Course Description: The welding disciplines covered in this course are Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW), Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), and Pipe Welding. Other areas of study include safety and equipment maintenance, blueprint reading, and welding terms/symbols.

Training includes: 

  1. 3 weeks of GMAW-MIG on steel
  2. 2 weeks of GTAW-TIG
  3. 2 weeks of SMAW-Stick on plate steel
  4. 5 weeks of SMAW-Stick or GTAW-TIG on pipe
  5. Also includes training on welding symbols, blueprints and pipe layout for pipe fitters and welders.

Upon successful completion of the course the student will be:

  • Diversified in 3 welding processes
  • Capable of welding plate and pipe and passing weld tests on plate and pipe
  • Able to understand the different wires and shielding gasses
  • Able to understand the different electrodes
  • Able to read blueprints and understand the different welding symbols
  • More marketable for job placement

Prerequisites: To enroll in the Welding Programs, a copy of your high school diploma or GED is required at time of registration.
